Brandon, It's a bit hard for us in the US to know what part numbers you might easily find in Malta. I'll try some general suggestions. If the transistor is a 2SC1384, it is still in production. This sort of number is used for parts originally made in Japan. For this device, the part number should include a final letter: Q, R or S. The letter defines the range for the Hfe, the DC current gain. This may, or may not be important in your application.

The 2SC1384 is an NPN transistor, rated 50V, 1A, 1W. It's package is a tall TO-92, with the collector on the center lead. The PNP complement is the 2SA684, or 2SA0684.

Maximum current gain occurs beyond 500 mA on the collector, with considerable gain on past 1A. Sort of a quart of current in a pint package. These guys can easily draw enough current to quickly overheat and release the magic smoke. I expect the exact same die is also sold in a power package for mounting on a heatsink. The upshot here is that a less powerful transistor, in a regular TO-92 sort of package, may be very short-lived in your application. There are many other transistors that might work in your application. However, you may need this device's relatively high current and power ratings, so a part in the more common standard TO-92 size package may not be stout enough. If you do not locate a suitable transistor in the same package, you might adapt a part in the larger TO-126, or even the TO-220 package. If you don't mind ugly, you can parallel two to four garden-variety NPN transistors to make a replacement for this part.

( Best to add a small emitter resistor for each transistor, if you do this.) Tell us what part numbers you have on-hand, or can easily get. Some strategies you might employ include working the substitution lists backwards. That is, find the SK, ECG or NTE equivalent, then see what other parts the replacement device can replace. I think these lists are online, somewhere. You will still need to find the data sheets, and compare ratings to be sure you have found a good substitute. If you have a schematic for the application, we might have more specific suggestions.

So, about the asthetics it's not mhuc of a problem in fact if i can use TO-220 as a package i think it's better for me so i'll be safe.
